back with another release of one of your favourite extensions! (yeaaa, if you're reading this, then monochromate might just be your favourite extension.)
anyways, been a while, as always, eh?
i got a job and all, so things got a little busy. but i'm back to being unemployed lmao, which means i'm finally picking up my old projects again. and guess what? we've got a sort of big release this time, with all the changes detailed in the release notes below, if you feel like checking them out.
on another note, i'm genuinely glad to see all the love and reviews monochromate has been receiving. the other day, i got an email from someone telling me how much the extension helps them reduce brain fog and stay focused on their work. that's honestly pretty insane to me because i never imagined something i built would have that kind of impact. so, thank you for using monochromate regularly. knowing that it actually helps you guys is more than enough to make me happy.
also, i've been working on something new, and unlike what i hinted at in the last release, i actually went ahead and launched it without an announcement. i was so bored that i ended up building the whole thing over a weekend lmao.
the idea is pretty simple: it turns your name into a cute, playful avatar. it's primarily a developer-focused library for making profile pictures a little more fun, and it comes with a react package, shadcn cli-compatible components, and an api library.
but while building it, i realised it could also work as a pretty fun sticker generator. so, i'd love for you guys to check out blobz.lirena.in and tell me what kind of sticker you get from your name. i'm genuinely curious to see what everyone gets!

What's New
More flexible subdomain patterns
You can now add wildcard domains directly to either your blacklist or whitelist—without needing to append /*.
For example, *.google.com matches:
mail.google.comdocs.google.comwww.google.com- Deeper subdomains such as
dev.team.google.com
Patterns can also start at any subdomain level. For example, *.team.corp.example.org matches both dev.team.corp.example.org and www.dev.team.corp.example.org.
You can still restrict a pattern to specific paths:
*.example.org— all pages on child domains.*.example.org/*— the existing form continues to work.*.example.org/private/*— only pages under/private/on child domains.
The parent domain is separate: *.example.org matches its subdomains, but not example.org itself. Add example.org as another entry if you want both.
Matching also respects domain boundaries, so *.example.org won’t accidentally match example.org.other.com or a URL that merely contains example.org in its path.
Cached, configurable popup banners
Popup banners can now be updated through the website API. Configuration is cached for one hour, avoiding a new request every time you open the extension. If a refresh fails, the popup falls back to the donation and GitHub stars banners.
What's Fixed
- Fixed native modal dialogs, popovers, fullscreen elements, and their backdrops remaining colored while grayscale was enabled. These now respect your selected grayscale intensity.
